Finding The Light Within

In my previous life as a TV news photographer, I was often asked to capture a "Weather Shot"—a brief moment of video to show  news viewers what it felt like outside that day. A shot that had to be gathered wherever your other news assignments took you. Repeatedly looking for a Weather shot eventually led to a realization that transformed into a life philosophy. You can find a “Weather shot” no matter where you are.

I had been away from the lens for years.   But it doesn’t take a camera to see that the life you pictured can change in an instant. It can send a storm of misfortune or tragedy and just as easily warm blessings and miracles.  My recent journey through both ends of life’s roller coaster has brought my focus back to that idea formed years ago. That there is a beauty that can be found in all of it.  A "Weather Shot" isn't just about pretty pictures; it’s an internal compass. It’s the quiet, persistent belief that beauty doesn't require a perfect setting. You can find it in a pristine mountain lake, but you can also find it in a city alleyway. In the warmth and support of a friend when you’re going through a hard time. Or the gift god has given you with a second chance at life.

As I pick up my camera again. My passion rekindled. My goal is to do just that. Find the beauty no matter where my assignment takes me.
